Default I don't think I can do it, parting with my characters forever

After almost 2 years of playing the game, it saddens me that one day, Guild Wars 2 will come, and I will be forced to either continue playing the no longer updated GW1, or go to GW2. Or simply stop playing the game all together.

This is a problem faced by alot of MMO's today. EQ, Lineage, and many other games, will have to do the same as Guild Wars is going to do.

Come 09-10, We will all have to make a decision. Continue playing Ch1, or move to Ch2. I know like most of you, I have been playing since the game came out almost 2 years ago now, and I have been building my PvE characters since. Losing them would mean literally starting over, into pre-searing and into a new game. Something I really don't want to do, but know I have to, to play the second version of the game.

I know Guild Wars 2 is going to blow our minds, dazzle us with amazing graphics, updates, and new features, be the best looking MMO on the market. But parting with one of the things that keeps me playing....saddens me.

Nobodies forcing me to buy the next campaign, but its going to be great, so why have to part with my old characters? The other thread, although speculation entirely, says that it takes place 200 years after these years we are currently playing in. Nobody lives 200 years.

So I suppose this thread is asking Anet "Let us keep our old beloved characters?"

Starting fresh or staying with what works, what do you all think?

I'll be blunt; if you love your characters as much as, for example, a family member or pet, you have problems.

Just remake your character...nothing stopping you.

Well, considering all the hard work and time you invested in the character you should at least feel some attachment to it.

Taking characters over would be cool

but nothing beats exploring new frontiers - new character, new land, you being newbie and having fun dicovering things (which will be 'dih, of course' later on) and making your character more powerfull in rapidly changing enviroment.

Some attachemnt to your PvE chars is good, to much attachment is ... really, really bad.

Ummm did someone official actually confirm that we'd have to start over with new characters? If not, why are you talking about it as though it were fact? Come on people, this is how stupid rumours passed off as fact gets started.

Every other MMO with a sequel is completely seperate from the original. (since the original is still playable) Thus, new characters would be required.

It didn't officially confirm you'd have to start over, in fact it didn't even say that at all. Some have assumed it from the fact the storyline picks up hundreds of years later. One shouldn't panic over speculation from an unconfirmed announcement.

Dude...life goes on. I have deleted a lvl 20 mesmer and ranger in 15k armour cause other campains had better faces. It was sad somewhere but you get over it real quickly. It's just a game character.

We've all played other games before and we will play other games yet. Nothing has been confirmed or denied, but if there will be a new game then there will be new excitement...you will forget soon enough.

All good things come to an end...so they can make room for new good things.

Though speculation and maintaining an open mind (tempered by healthy skepticism) is welcomed, until the article is confirmed, it would be best if speculation based on the article remained in the thread about the article.

Preparing for the future is wise, but making judgments or decisions based on wholly uncomfirmed rumours is not. The only current confirmed information is that a domain has registered by Nc Soft, something that occurred with Guild Wars Utopia as well.
